Kwara state to establish farm produce commodity board

Kwara State Government is to establish Farm Produce Commodity Board to assist farmers to get market for their produce.

Alhaji Babatunde Ajeigbe, the state Commissioner for Information, made this known on Wednesday at a news conference after the state’s Executive Council meeting in Ilorin.

He said the council approved the establishment of the board to be fashioned along the old commodity board of the 1980s.

The commissioner added that the commodity board, when established, would be private sector driven and would assist in promoting agriculture in the state.

He explained that the council had directed the state’s Attorney General and commissioner for justice to send a bill to the House of Assembly for establishment of the board.

Dr Muyideen Akorede, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Media to the Governor, said the state was adjudged the best in implementation of “save one million lives in North Central geopolitical zone.”

He said Kwara was the sixth among participating states in the country.

According to him, the save one million lives programme is in conjunction with World Health Organisation (WHO).

Akorede said the states were assessed on the basis of maternal and child mortality, usage of treated mosquito nets and support for health delivery services.

“On the basis of this performance, Kwara has been selected to be among the 12 states to benefit from another save one million lives scheme,” Akorede said.

He added that the council had also approved the implementation of Kwara Monitoring and Evaluation policy to monitor and evaluate programmes of MDAS.

He pointed out that the council took note of the forthcoming electioneering campaign in the state of the need for political public speakers and religious preachers to avoid hate speeches capable of inciting unrest.

He, therefore, warned that the state governor, as the Chief Security officer of the state was saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace and order in the state.

Akorede noted that the council had directed the state’s Attorney General to inform security agents to invite public speakers and preachers to defend the speeches they made.

When traveling, elderly people are at greatest risk of getting a health emergency. Obtaining right insurance coverage package for one’s age group can safeguard your health and provide peace of mind.
