GENERAL INFORMATION

Imo State was created on February 3, 1976 out of the former East Central state. It is named after the Imo River which flows from the uplands of the state around Okigwe into the Atlantic ocean. Imo state is located in the southeast region of Nigeria and its capital is Owerri which is its largest city. It is located between Anambra State in the North, Rivers State in the South, Akwa Ibom State to the East and on the West by Delta State.
The state has several natural resourced including crude oil, natural gas, lead, Calcium Cabornate and zinc. 
Profitable flora including iroko, mahogany, obeche, bamboo, rubber tree and oil palm. Additionally white clay, fine sand and limestone are found in the state. 
Imo's major towns include Isu, Okigwe, Oguta, Orlu, Atta Ikeduru, Akokwa, Mbaise, Mbaitoli, Mbieri, Ohaji/Egbema, Orodo, Nkwerre, Ubulu, Ngor Okpala, Omuma, Mgbidi, Awo-Omamma, Izombe, Orsu, Amaigbo and Mbano.
The state also produces agricultural produce such as palm produce, cocoa and rubber. The main staple crops are yam, cassava, cocoyam and maize.

The State is blessed with abundant natural resources. These include crude oil, lead, zinc, white clay, fine sand, limestone and natural gas in commercial quantities.
Many trade and investment opportunities abound in the peaceful State including Oil and Gas Exploration, Chemical Plants, Brewery Plants, Hydroelectricity and Gas-Fired Power Plants, Grain Milling, Starch Production, Cashew Product Industry, Fruit and Vegetable Juice Concentrate Production, Integrated Multi-Oil Seeds Processing Plant, Ceramic Industry, Inland Waterway Transport, Integrated Palm Produce Industry.
